At the St. Mary College's extension children’s English program, we want the learning environment to be both fun and comfortable for the children. In this type of setting, learning English becomes less stressful and creates a sense of self-motivation in each student. We want the students to remember that learning English is fun and exciting so that they will continue to learn as they grow. Moreover, learning English from a native speaker allows your child to experience native pronunciation—younger children can develop the natural pronunciation of a language with ease. Since all of our teachers are native speakers of English, your child will have a head start in speaking more naturally. However, what is the point of investing time and money in a private English program if your child can’t pass the school entrance exams? After all those exams do not test for a communicative knowledge of English, they are only concerned with grammatical proficiency. That’s where the St. Mary system comes in to play. We mix the reality of learning English within the Japanese school system with an authentic, fun native approach. In other words, the reading and writing, or grammar, is the focus from the start. Then we apply that knowledge with fun and entertaining activities that allow your child to speak using previously learned structures.  Finally, we set up an authentic environment where children are speaking with native speakers of English and becoming familiar with American culture. Furthermore, the Japanese Ministry of Education has implemented English in 5th and 6th grade elementary classes.
