AboutSteven

With an outstanding background as a professional English language instructor and over 20 years of teaching experience, Steven Dietz brings both his passion and his expertise to the classroom, helping you believe & achieve!

Steven Dietz comes from Sydney, Australia. He is the only Australian teacher at Nunoike and has been teaching here for almost 20 years. He is a graduate of The University of Sydney where he studied for a combined degree in both Arts and Law, with a major in English Literature and Language, as well as Education. Before coming to Japan, he taught English, History, Indonesian and French at Chevalier College, a well-known private high

school in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. It was fate that first brought him to Japan many years ago as a volunteer English instructor at Nagoya English Academy, one of the largest English conversation schools in Nagoya at that time. He loved Japan, enjoyed his work and was soon appointed Director of the Academy, responsible for every aspect of Academy business, while continuing to teach students of all ages and from all walks of life. Mr. Dietz first joined the teaching staff at St. Mary/Nunoike Gaigo Senmon Gakko in 1995, teaching a variety of subjects, including Communication in English; Critical Thinking; English for Academic Purposes; Academic Writing; Business and Travel English courses; Reading and Speech. After taking a break from teaching in order to study Japanese full-time at Nanzan University, he returned to Nunoike, this time, focusing on private and semi-private lessons as well as Homestay Preparatory lessons and the college’s vital Open Campus classes. Through his private lessons, he is privileged to have the opportunity of meeting all kinds of people - from elementary school students to top professionals and from true beginner level students through to highly advanced. The purpose of his private language programs varies from student to student and his lessons are tailored to meet individual student needs. Some students are studying with a definite objective in mind, for example, to improve their overall English ability because of the demands of their job or to help prepare for a specific test such as EIKEN, TOEIC or TOEFL, whereas others are simply studying for pleasure or because they want to communicate with other English speakers from around the world. Teaching private lessons is especially satisfying for him because he has the chance to provide his students with individual attention and develop a close rapport with them. Outside of school, he enjoys travel, photography, movies and hiking. He is a Kyoto enthusiast, visiting the city at least once every season. He also loves escaping to the mountains of Shinshu to refresh both my mind and body, climbing the awe-inspiring peaks and relaxing in hot, steamy onsen baths. Nunoike is like a family to me! He hopes you’ll also have the same wonderful experience here and looks forward to meeting you, firstly in one of his Open Campus lessons and later, as one of our full-time students. Remember that English is the key for the door to a whole new world and a whole new way of looking at life. He wishes you all the very best of luck.
